Nahum Tate
Note by H Craik to The Epistle of the Tale of a Tub

Was born in 1652, and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He was befriended by Dryden, for whom he wrote much of the Second Part of Absalom and Achitophel. He was the author of many works, but his name is chiefly remembered as that of the metrical translator of the Psalms in conjunction with Brady. 'Tate's poor page' and 'The mild limbo of our Father Tate' have found a place in the Dunciad. He was Poet Laureate, and died in 1715.
