Dr. Duke
Note by Henry Craik to letters 16 from Journal To Stella

Richard Duke, ' one of the wits,' says Swift, 'when we were children, but turned parson, and left it.' Johnson gave him a place in his Lives, and thus dismisses him: ' His poems are not below mediocrity, nor have I found much in them to be praised.' He obtained the living of Witney, in Oxfordshire, only a few months before his death.
