The dispute between the Platonists and Aristotelians was one in which Swift had no interest, and of which, probably, he knew very little. He introduces this episode merely to illustrate the struggles between authors; and, as a fact, many of those to whom he refers sarcastically were noted as impugners of mediaeval Aristotelianism.
